When A Tree Needs To Come Down
Not every tree needs removing, and we will tell you honestly when one is fine. But some trees are a liability sitting over your roof, and waiting on them rarely gets cheaper. Call us to look at it if you are seeing any of this:
- Dead or dying — bare limbs in mid-summer, bark sloughing off, fungal conks or mushrooms at the base.
- Storm damaged — a split trunk, a torn crotch, or limbs hung up in the canopy waiting to fall.
- Leaning the wrong way — especially if the soil on one side has heaved or cracked. That is the root plate moving.
- Hollow or rotting — a cavity you can put your arm into means far less holding wood than you think.
- Too close to the house — roots into the foundation, limbs on the shingles, or a trunk that simply outgrew the spot it was planted in.
- In the way — of a new garage, a driveway, a fence line, or a septic field.
How We Take A Tree Down Safely
There are two ways to remove a tree, and the property decides which one we use.
If there is room, we fell it whole. That means a proper notch, a controlled back cut, and a rope in the top when the lean needs correcting. It is fast, and on open ground it is the cleanest option.
When there is no room — a house on one side, a fence on the other, a garden underneath — we take it down in pieces. A climber ties in, works up the stem, and rigs each limb and log down on ropes so nothing free-falls. It takes longer, and it is why some crews will not bid the job at all. It is also the difference between a clean removal and a new claim on your homeowner's policy.
Hazard Tree Removal & Technical Tree Climbing For Inaccessible Trees
This is the work we are known for around Galesburg. When a tree sits in a fenced back yard, wedged between two houses, behind a garage, or over a septic field where no bucket truck or crane will ever reach, equipment stops being the answer and climbing skill starts.
Our climbers rope in and dismantle the tree from the top down, lowering each section under control with rigging lines and friction devices. Nothing drops uncontrolled. Nothing lands on your fence, your shed, or your flower beds.
Hazard trees get the same treatment with an extra layer of planning. Before anybody leaves the ground we look at where the decay is, which side has the tension wood, and what the failure would take out if it let go mid-job. Then we sequence the cuts so the tree comes apart in the order we choose rather than the order gravity prefers.
What's Included In Every Removal
- Complete takedown of the tree, limbs and trunk
- Chipping and haul-off of all brush
- Wood removed, or cut to firewood length and stacked if you would rather keep it
- Raking and blowing of the work area — driveway, sidewalk, and street included
- Optional stump grinding to finish the job flush with the yard
What Affects The Price
Anyone who quotes a tree over the phone without seeing it is guessing. The real drivers are height and diameter, species and wood density, how far the crew has to carry or drag debris, and above all what sits underneath: open pasture is a very different job from a fenced yard eight feet off a neighbor's siding.
That is why our estimates are free and done in person. You get one written number that already covers cleanup and hauling, and it does not move once the saws start unless you ask us to add something.
